Extrication/Heavy Squad Operations

Rescue 7's Heavy Squad, 709

SVRS is home to Squad 709, a heavy squad/extrication vehicle. This squad truck is dispatched to the scene of motor vehicle accidents as it contains equipment necessary to perform vehicle stabilization and patient extrication. 709 is often also on the scene of active structure fires as it contains a cascade system capable of refilling firefighter SCBAs (self-contained breath apparatus) on-scene, which enhances the capabilities of our partner volunteer fire department.
SVRS members obtain special credentials and receive extensive training in order to be able to operate 709 and respond to scenes with possible patient entrapment. VEHEXT (Vehicle Extrication) classes are held yearly within Albemarle County.
