Scott Roman, Erica Storey, and Brandis Roman headed to Blacksburg, VA to participate in VAVRS' Rescue College Swift Water Rescue Class. After 1 day of the "Introduction" (awareness level) course, which SVRS James "Mac" MacDonald also attended, the students spent 3 1/2 days learning the operations part of swift water rescue. The course included learning to "eddy hop", navigate the river using the ferry angle, self-defense techniques in the water, backboarding in the water, and reading the river. The training ended in test day, where students were given practical scenarios to solve.
